सारण जिले के एकमा प्रखंड में एक दर्दनाक घटना सामने आई है, जहां विषैले सांप के काटने से पांच वर्षीय मासूम कुणाल कुमार की जान चली गई। परिजनों का आरोप है कि स्थानीय सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र में एंटी स्नेक वेनम (एएसवी) इंजेक्शन उपलब्ध नहीं था, जिसके चलते बच्चे को समय पर उचित इलाज नहीं मिल सका और उसकी मृत्यु हो गई।
जानकारी के अनुसार, सांप के काटने के बाद परिजन तत्काल कुणाल को एकमा सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र लेकर पहुंचे। वहां डॉक्टरों ने बच्चे की स्थिति देखी, लेकिन अस्पताल में एंटी स्नेक वेनम इंजेक्शन उपलब्ध नहीं था। इसके बाद बच्चे को छपरा स्थित सदर अस्पताल रेफर कर दिया गया। लेकिन तब तक बहुत देर हो चुकी थी और रास्ते में या अस्पताल पहुंचने के बाद मासूम कुणाल ने दम तोड़ दिया।
परिजनों का कहना है कि यदि एकमा सीएचसी में एएसवी इंजेक्शन उपलब्ध होता, तो उनके बच्चे की जान बचाई जा सकती थी। इस घटना ने एक बार फिर बिहार के ग्रामीण इलाकों में सरकारी स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों की बदहाली और जरूरी दवाओं की अनुपलब्धता को उजागर कर दिया है।
बिहार के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में सांप काटने की घटनाएं बारिश के मौसम में अक्सर सामने आती हैं, लेकिन सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों में एंटी स्नेक वेनम की अनुपलब्धता एक गंभीर और पुरानी समस्या बनी हुई है। स्वास्थ्य विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि प्राथमिक और सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों में इस जीवनरक्षक दवा की उपलब्धता सुनिश्चित करना अत्यंत आवश्यक है।
इस घटना के बाद स्थानीय लोगों में स्वास्थ्य विभाग के खिलाफ रोष व्याप्त है। परिवार वाले न्याय की मांग कर रहे हैं और स्वास्थ्य केंद्र की लापरवाही की जांच की मांग कर रहे हैं। अधिकारियों की ओर से अभी तक कोई आधिकारिक बयान सामने नहीं आया है।

According to the family, Kunal was rushed to the Ekma CHC immediately after the snake bite. However, doctors at the centre could not administer the critical ASV injection due to its unavailability. The child was then referred to the Sadar Hospital in Chhapra, but it was too late — Kunal succumbed before he could receive the life-saving treatment.
The incident has once again highlighted the chronic shortage of essential medicines, particularly anti-snake venom, at rural health centres across Bihar. Snake bite cases surge during the monsoon season in villages, making the availability of ASV at primary and community health centres critically important.
Locals and the bereaved family are demanding accountability from the health department and a thorough inquiry into the negligence at the Ekma CHC. No official statement has been issued by the authorities so far.
